Red Light Therapy: The new gold standard in anti-aging and skin care

There are many medical applications for red light therapy but it is probably best known for its anti-aging effects. We know it’s astonishing to claim that a certain wavelength of light can reverse the hands of time and help you look younger than your biological age, but can science back this claim? It sounds impossible, and that’s why you can’t blame a lot of people for being skeptical on this matter.

Therefore we, at Triveda Wellness, would like to educate and inform people about how this simple red light therapy can eliminate wrinkles, even skin tone, reduce redness, reverse scarring, and much more!

How does red light therapy for anti-aging work?

Healers have known about the therapeutic benefits of natural sunlight for thousands of years. But today, scientists now know exactly how each wavelength of natural sunlight benefits the body.

Red light therapy, which often uses both red and near-infrared (NIR) light, falls into what is known as the “therapeutic window” of wavelengths that naturally, non-invasively, and safely support the body’s self-healing mechanisms – with little or no side effects.

Red light therapy is also called photobiomodulation (PBM) and low-level light therapy (LLLT). It uses devices fitted with powerful light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs to deliver red wavelengths between 630 and 660 nanometers (nm) and deeper-penetrating NIR light between 810 and 850nm.

Increasing Cellular Energy

The natural skin problems we experience can be defined as “mitochondrial dysfunction.” This occurs when anything interferes with the ability of your mitochondria (energy-producing organelles inside cells) to convert raw materials into cellular fuel known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

When this happens, your cells struggle for survival and don’t have the energy they need to perform their specialized functions. They die prematurely; and this is what you see manifest as dry, papery, sagging, dull skin … and wrinkles.

Even as new cells emerge naturally and dead cells slough off, the new cells can still be created defective from the preexisting mitochondrial dysfunction, and you will still look older than you could. The health of the emerging cells must be improved for you to experience an anti-aging transformation.

Unlike Botox which temporarily fixes symptoms of aging while further harming your skin and disregarding the root cause of the dysfunction, red light therapy has been shown actually to reverse mitochondrial dysfunction instead of mask it. When you are exposed to LED panels that deliver red and infrared wavelengths to your skin, light photons interact with light-sensitive chromophores within the mitochondria. This excites the mitochondria to stimulate ATP production, supercharging your cells.

Giving your cells more energy lets them reverse decades of damage; and as they die and replace themselves, they are going to be replaced by healthy cells, not damaged cells – and this will show in reduced signs of aging. That means instead of the visible effects of damaged skin (sagging, wrinkles, and a crepey texture) you see an emergence of healthy skin that is naturally fuller, smoother, softer, and more resilient.

Increasing Collagen and Elastin Production

The structural protein known as collagen, along with its cousin elastin, makes up about 80 percent of the skin. These proteins act as a flexible support structure. You can see the deterioration of this structure when collagen and elastin production is low.

Studies on red light therapy treatments have consistently shown an increase in intradermal collagen density after treatment. Higher collagen density means tighter skin that feels firmer and fuller.

Elastin is the protein that allows the skin to stretch. Like collagen, elastin production slows over the years, but this slowdown is accelerated by mitochondrial dysfunction. Luckily, it can be reversed by treating the skin with red light therapy.

The combination of greater collagen density and more elastin within the skin can smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, effectively giving you a “facelift” and leaving your skin feeling youthful – without invasive shots or expensive and potentially harmful surgery.

Reducing Inflammation

Skin redness is a tell tale sign of inflammation. Luckily, reducing inflammation and reversing mitochondrial dysfunction are the hallmarks of red light therapy.

Red light therapy is a natural way to treat inflammation that expresses itself as flushing and redness. This has been confirmed by hundreds of studies, whether they are directly related to inflammation itself or if they are focused on pain relief or other symptoms.

Increasing Circulation

Red light therapy also stimulates blood circulation and the development of new capillaries. Because of this, more nutrients and oxygen is delivered to the skin which results in a healthier radiance. This light stimulus gives you that instant glow that people associate with healthy and young skin.

Red light therapy also increases lymphatic system activity to reduce puffiness and swelling. Because of the increased blood circulation, the lymphatic system does a better job of removing excess fluids and wastes from the skin tissues. The results are instantaneous and can be noticed after the first and succeeding treatments.

Triveda's Anti-Aging Treatment

Triveda’s anti-aging package consists of 2-3 sessions per week and utilizes the region’s most powerful LED therapy device to deliver a highly effective and clinically backed full-body treatment.

Instead of delivering a “one sized fits all” approach to red light therapy, we at Triveda tailor each client’s treatment to their individual needs, adjusting the light density and the mix of therapeutic light wavelengths to target your body with only the most therapeutic dosages of light.

Add our blue light therapy add-on for powerful bacteria-fighting addition to your session, shown in clinical studies to eliminate the bacteria responsible for acne.
